Josie Brown
Teaching

Josie was asked to teach adult education classes before she’d left Art College, and although greatly lacking in confidence – as is often the way – teaching helped her learn even more. On moving to Gloucestershire, she was asked to teach calligraphy, in various settings and to a range of learners, thus developing different approaches for different people, and also undertook teacher training, eventually achieving a Cert Ed. Josie worked as a development worker for a national community college, organising courses for disadvantaged groups throughout the county, tailor-making the subjects and content to suit their needs. During this time she wrote a GCSE in Calligraphy, a 12 module level 2 Open College Network Programme and then a 30 module level 3 Programme, which included the major hands, a wide range of bindings and various applied techniques.

Josie is involved with teaching a range of personal development courses as well as teacher training to National qualifications. She managed the Gloucestershire region of the WEA for two years but came to the realisation that this was not what she went into teaching for and took up self-employment in 2005. She now works as a free-lance consultant, is a tutor mentor, delivers teacher training in various modes and still teaches in several curriculum areas as well as calligraphy and related arts – both privately and for adult education providers.

If you are interested in any aspect of the teaching on offer, please contact Josie for further information.
